Who We Are
Decarboning.earth is a consultancy founded on the conviction that biochar is one of the most viable and underutilised tools we have for carbon removal. We are practitioners and advocates — part-time by design, fully committed in purpose.
We work with policymakers, investors, and industry partners to clear the path: translating complex science into workable policy, identifying real-world applications, and sharing knowledge that moves the sector forward.
Our Vision
Biochar's potential is often blocked by regulatory frameworks that haven't caught up. We advocate for clear, science-backed policy that makes biochar a practical choice for producers and users alike.
From anaerobic digesters to soil amendment, biochar has proven uses across sectors. We help stakeholders identify, evaluate, and implement the applications that make sense for them.
Progress in biochar depends on open exchange. We share what we learn, connect people across the value chain, and work to grow a community that accelerates the whole sector.
What We Do
Our work is concentrated where we can have the most impact: removing the policy, application, and knowledge barriers holding biochar back.

We advise on where and how biochar can be deployed effectively — from soil improvement and water filtration to industrial use cases such as anaerobic digestion. We help clients assess feasibility, sourcing, and integration.

We work with industry associations and public bodies to integrate biochar into Dutch and European regulatory frameworks. Our goal is a clear, enabling policy landscape that supports responsible production and use at scale.

We disseminate practical knowledge across the biochar value chain — connecting producers, users, researchers, and investors. Through events, publications, and partnerships, we raise the baseline for everyone in the sector.
